Jim represents businesses and individuals in the areas of professional malpractice, class actions, securities law and general business litigation. He also devotes a substantial portion of his practice to counseling law firms and other professional clients on organizational and dissolution issues. Jim has been recognized repeatedly by his peers as a Leading Lawyer for commercial litigation in Illinois.
Admitted to the bar in both Illinois and Wisconsin, Jim has represented clients and tried cases in other jurisdictions, including New York, Florida, Michigan and Indiana. He and one of his partners successfully represented a client in the U.S. Supreme Court, winning a unanimous decision in favor of their client in Kontrick v. Ryan.
Jim recently coauthored a chapter titled “Lawyers in Transition: Liability Issues Relating to Lawyer Mobility” in the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education’s Practice Handbook on Attorneys’ Legal Liability.
Jim is an active member of several bar associations and currently serves as co-chair of the Ethics Subcommittee of the Commercial and Business Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association’s Litigation Section.
