Peter A. Silverman, a partner in the firm of Figliulo & Silverman, has for more than 18 years focused his practice on the representation of businesses and individuals in the areas of employment law, professional liability and responsibility, partnership and corporate law and general business litigation. Pete has extensive experience in complex business disputes and litigation.

He has recently been recognized in a survey of his peers as one of the leading commercial litigators in Illinois.

Pete’s experience in the employment area is particularly extensive and diverse. The services that he has rendered have ranged from general counseling, such as drafting employee handbooks, policies and procedures, to prosecuting and defending claims. Pete has substantial experience in prosecuting and defending discrimination claims in United States District Court, the EEOC, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Cook County Commission on Human Rights and the Chicago Commission of Human Relations. He has represented numerous clients in discrimination claims based on race, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability and sexual orientation. Pete also has extensive experience enforcing and defending against restrictive covenants.

Pete has also had significant experience representing clients in corporate and partnership disputes. He has handled numerous matters involving the interpretation and enforcement of partnership and shareholder agreements and application of the Business Corporation Act and Uniform Partnership Act in the context of closely held, family owned businesses and with respect to partnership and corporate dissolutions and break-ups.

Pete is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the trial bar for the Northern District of Illinois and a pro bono panel member. Pete is a member of the judicial evaluation committee of the Chicago Bar Association and a member of the American Bar Association.

Pete attended Northwestern University and received his B.A. in 1984. He received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1987 with honors. In law school, he earned distinction as a G. Joseph Tauro scholar and was an editor of The Journal of Law and Medicine.
