Twenty-Five Million Dollars ($25,000,000) was the amount a Cook County jury awarded on May 5, 2009 to a Figliulo & Silverman, P.C. client who faced losing her property to the Village of Evergreen Park through eminent domain. Since 1923 Ms. Anna Mae (“Babe”) Ahern and her family have owned and operated a 95 acre golf course in Evergreen Park, Illinois. In 2002 the Village filed a lawsuit seeking to take the property through its power of eminent domain. Prior to the filing of the case, the Village offered Ms. Ahern $5 million for her property. After a seven day trial, the jury concluded the property was worth five times that amount. Representing Ms. Ahern at trial from Figliulo & Silverman, P.C. were James R. Figliulo and Carl A. Gigante.
