Jim Figliulo is a trial lawyer with over 30 years of experience in business related litigation.

Jim has extensive experience in jury and bench trials and arbitrations in federal and state courts representing clients in a wide variety of disputes, including claims involving accounting malpractice, legal malpractice, contract, partnership, corporate, securities fraud, business torts, real estate, eminent domain, construction, breach of fiduciary duty, employment matters and equitable remedies. He has also been retained by many Chicago law firms and individual lawyers to represent them in litigation and to provide counsel concerning a variety of partnership disputes.

Jim is President of the 7th Circuit Bar Association. The 7th Circuit Bar Association works closely with the trial and appellate judges in the 7th Circuit to promote an efficient and high quality of practice in the federal courts.

Jim is one of the Co-Chairs of the Seventh Circuit American Jury Project Commission along with District Court Judge James Holderman and Circuit Judge Diane Sykes. This Commission has instituted a pilot program to test certain jury trial innovations.

Jim is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. The American College of Trial Lawyers is widely considered to be the premier professional organization in America. It is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the College is by invitation extended only after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional skill as advocates and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism and civility.

Jim is a founder, past president, and Master of the Bench for the Chicago Inn of Court, which is part of the American Inns of Court, an organization that promotes professionalism, excellence, ethics and civility among trial lawyers and judges. The Chicago Inn of Court was founded in 1988 and includes among its members many of the best trial lawyers and judges in Chicago.

Jim is also among a handful of Chicago area trial lawyers included in The Best Lawyers in America for 10 years. He is also part of the Leading Lawyers of Illinois. Jim is also recognized as one of the Top 100 Superlawyers. Lawyers are selected to be included in these publications based on surveys of their peers.

Jim is an active member of the following legal organizations:

  • Chicago Inn of Court (Past President and Master of the Bench)
  • American Bar Association (Section of Litigation; Member, Corporate Counsel Committee and Business Torts Committee)

He participates in and presents several programs for various bar associations and professional organizations on litigation-related topics. He has authored articles for various publications including Litigation, a journal published by the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, and has participated in roundtable discussions which have been published for U.S. Business Litigation and the Illinois Legal Times.

Jim received his law degree from the University of Arizona College of Law in 1974. He was the recipient of the William Spaid Memorial Scholar Award at the University of Arizona College of Law and served as Chairman of its Moot Court Board. Jim attended St. Ignatius High School in Chicago and graduated cum laude from Saint Mary's College in Minnesota. He is admitted to practice in Illinois, Arizona, the Supreme Court of the United States, the Seventh and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals, and the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, and the District of Arizona. He is a member of the Trial Bar of the Northern District of Illinois.
