Michael Desmond is a shareholder in the law firm of Figliulo & Silverman. Mr. Desmond concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial litigation, bankruptcy law, creditor’s rights and real estate. Prior to joining the firm in 1998, Mike served as an attorney with the United States Department of Justice, Office of the United States Trustee, where he handled a variety of bankruptcy related litigation and complex business reorganizations.

Mike has experience in handling a variety of complex business matters including accounting and legal malpractice, shareholder litigation, construction litigation, corporate investigations, bankruptcy reorganizations and bankruptcy related litigation. In addition, Mike has trial experience in both federal and state court.

Mike is a Certified Public Accountant, and previously served as a member of the adjunct faculty at DePaul University College of Law where he taught Basic Financial Accounting for Lawyers. Prior to joining the practice of law Mike served as the Assistant Controller for Mid America Bank.

Mike received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Northern Illinois University in 1983, and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1985. Mr. Desmond received his Juris Doctor degree from The John Marshall Law School in 1992. Mike is admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois, the Seventh Circuit of Appeals and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Mike is a member of the 7th Circuit Bar Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute.

Mike has recently been recommended by his peers as a Leading Lawyer in Commercial Litigation Law.  Addiitonally, he has recently been appointed to serve on the private panel of bankruptcy trustees maintained by the United States Trustee for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.
