Joseph A. Donado concentrates his practice on complex commercial litigation. During his career, Joe has gained substantial experience in a broad array of substantive areas of law that are of particular importance to commercial enterprises. He has experience with claims brought under Title VII, the ADEA, the FLSA, section 1983, ERISA, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the Illinois Trade Secrets Act, RICO, state consumer fraud statutes, and various states’ false claims acts. He also has experience with other business-related litigation including insurance coverage disputes, contract disputes, business torts, and securities fraud. Joe has represented clients in a full range of matters – from single-plaintiff suits to large-scale, multi-jurisdictional class actions – and through all aspects of litigation – from drafting initial pleadings and emergency requests for injunctive relief, to preparing matters for trial and briefing issues on appeal.

Joe also has dedicated a significant amount of time to pro bono work. He has assisted an immigrant in seeking political asylum, and he has represented a state inmate in his request for federal habeas corpus relief, a process that included merits briefing in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and a petition for writ of certiorari before the United States Supreme Court.

Before joining Figliulo & Silverman, Joe served as law clerk to the Honorable Amy J. St. Eve, United States District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois. Before his clerkship, he worked as a litigation associate in the Chicago office of Jones Day.

In 2001, Joe received a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, and, in 1998, he received a B.A. in history with high honors from the University of Florida.

Joe is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and he is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association.
