James Bowhay, a partner in the firm of Figliulo & Silverman, focuses his practice on the representation of businesses and individuals in the areas of professional malpractice, securities law and general business litigation. Jim also devotes a substantial portion of his practice to counseling law firms and other professional clients on organizational and dissolution issues.
Admitted to the bar in both Illinois and Wisconsin, Jim has handled and tried cases in other jurisdictions, including New York, Florida, Michigan and Indiana. He and one of his partners successfully represented a client in the United States Supreme Court, winning a unanimous decision in favor of their client in Kontrick v. Ryan, 540 U.S. 443 (2004).
Jim has repeatedly been recognized in a survey of his peers as one of the leading commercial litigators in Illinois.
Jim received his undergraduate degree from Grinnell College in 1981, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated with honors from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1987, having received the Rickert Scholarship for Excellence in Moot Court.
Prior to joining Figliulo & Silverman in 1997, Jim was a partner with the Chicago firm of Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg and an associate with the Madison, Wisconsin office of Michael, Best & Friedrich.
He is an active member of several bar associations and serves on the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Governing Members Executive Committee as Vice Chairman of Nominations and Membership.
